Product Development

Software Engineer

Halo Labs is a fast-growing life science tools company developing and selling the best optical particle analysis platform currently available. We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to drive our in-house software development efforts, exceed customer expectations, and help support our future expansion.

This position will be located at our new office in Burlingame, CA and report to the VP of Engineering.

We are looking for someone with outstanding enthusiasm that has an attention for detail, but one that is flexible to roll with a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. This position will require solid experience building applications for Life Sciences on the Windows platform using C# (WinForms) and C++.

Responsibilities would include:

  • Assist with the development of our next generation Windows software development using C# (WinForms) and C++.
  • Develop testbeds and test software for manufacturing, QC and troubleshooting.
  • Identify and evaluate software risks and develop mitigations.
  • Must be able to quickly become proficient on system functionality and system interfaces.
  • Implementing software development best practices by developing, testing, documenting and deploying high quality software titles.
  • Work closely with marketing, QC and manufacturing to understand requirements and customer expectations.
  • Ability to work with technical support to quickly identify and solve customer software issues.
  • Work closely with hardware engineering so support development and testing of new hardware subsystems.

 Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years’ experience developing Windows based software in the Life Sciences or R&D organization using C#.
  • Strong object-orientated language skills.
  • Solid understanding and development skills in C# and C++.
  • Experience with fluorescence and image processing functions, including OpenCV.
  • Understanding of systems and requirements used in Life Sciences (e.g. Automation, Plate Formats, 21 CFR Part 11 etc.).
  • Proficient with characterization of software issues and bugs.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.
  • Openness to taking on new responsibilities as needs change and new requirements develop.

Consumables Engineer

Halo Labs is a fast-growing life science tools company developing and selling the best optical particle analysis platform currently available. We are looking for a talented Engineer to help with our in-house consumable manufacturing efforts and contribute significantly to the development of our particle analysis platform. This position will involve developing and improving manufacturing processes based on product requirements. This position will be located at our office in Burlingame, CA.

The ideal candidate would be someone with outstanding enthusiasm that has attention to detail, but one that is flexible to roll with a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. This position will require solid experience developing consumables for the Life Sciences.

 Responsibilities would include: 

  • Maintain and improve existing consumable production with an eye on continuous improvement. 
  • Transforming product requirements into sustainable, large-scale consumable production. 
  • Coordinate and develop engineering tests, first article inspections and validation and verification of consumables. 
  • Establish working relationships with vendors to determine supply, quantity, and quality of consumable components. 
  • Create comprehensive work instructions and manufacturing SOPs as needed. 
  • Transitioning consumables from engineering to manufacturing. 
  • Working with outside agencies to get compliance, safety certification and other government regulations as required. 
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing on root cause investigations and non-conformances. 
  • Must be able to quickly become proficient on system functionality and system interfaces. 
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and developing a system of continuous improvement based on product design, assembly, material and vendors. 
  • Assures produce and process quality by designing testing methods and process capabilities. 

 Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical, biochemical, mechanical Engineering or related area. 
  • 3+ years’ design and quality control experience in product manufacturing. 
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks and Product Manufacturing Information. 
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery. 
  • Ability to develop software scripts and tools to aid manufacturing. 
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement Processes (e.g. Lean Manufacturing). 
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation and project management skills.

Field Applications Scientist (US West Coast)

Halo Labs is a high-growth company on the forefront of technology that enables pharma scientists to investigate subvisible particles and characterize stability in ways that were previously not possible.

As a member of the Commercial Applications Organization, Halo Labs’ Field Applications Scientist (FAS) are responsible for both pre-sales success by demonstrating product capabilities and post-sales customer satisfaction and conduct customer driven research and development to power-up application generation.

This position will be in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our office is located in Burlingame, CA.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, organized, driven and flexible to roll with a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct pre-sales field demos of Halo Labs’ instruments
  • Conduct post-sale instrument installations and trainings
  • Provide phone and email-based technical support
  • Provide pro-active, field-based customer support
  • Provide voice of customer feedback to sales and marketing leadership
  • Customer driven assay development, including benchwork and data analysis
  • Inform applications and engineering departments with vital customer input

Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Life Science
  • Prior experience as an FAS or laboratory scientist in a pharmaceutical or biotech company
  • Prior experience in protein stability, cytometry, formulation development, particle analysis, assay development, or imaging microscopy
  • Ability to travel overnight, up to 75%
  • Ability to comfortably create and give presentations to convey a message to a diverse audience
  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot assays
  • Ability to work independently in the field

Biotechnology Scientific Development Associate

Halo Labs is a fast-growing life science tools company developing and selling analytical instrumentation that uses the latest advancements in optical microscopy to help pharmaceutical companies develop safe products.

The Biotechnology Scientific Associate position is focused on helping the Scientific Application Development team at Halo Labs develop and validate the latest applications of the Aura instrument. It includes conducting and aiding in chemical and biological assay development, as well as assessing instrument and software performance.

This position will be located at our new office in Burlingame, CA.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform assay development
  • New instrumentation and software testing from proof of principle to ensuring robust performance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Science in Life Science or Engineering or Associate Degree in Life Science with a minimum of 1 year of lab experience
  • Proficiency with micropipettes
  • Driven, Proactive, well-organized, flexible, and able to multi-task
  • Experience performing wet lab experiments independently
  • Experience with cell culture is a plus
